Teen Institute

     

Target Population: 16-18 year old high school students identified as leaders by their peers, teachers and faculty advisors.

Middle school students who are taught by Teen Institute graduates.

Develop skills of high school students to educate younger students about issues related to substance abuse and making healthy choices.

Provide information to middle school students about issues related to substance abuse.

Provide role models to help middle school students make healthy choices.

Community based program with students drawn from schools throughtout Madison County.

Members of the Institute are trained at a local college to make presentations to younger students in local schools.

Members of the Institute are trained in developing resistance skills, presentation of normative messages and other prevention skills during a 4 day retreat at a local college.

Institute graduates make presentations to younger students at middle schools.

Follow-up is provided to reinforce skills.

Increase knowledge of issues related to substance abuse and healthy alternatives.

Increase age of onset of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug use.

Prevent drug related infractions of youth.

Increase the social skills of TI graduates and their value to the community
