UNDERAGE DRINKING IN A SMALL COMMUNITY By: Carson Browning and Mark Vaughan Drinking is a serious problem no matter what age we are but most drinking experiences happen when we are teenagers. Underage drinking is a serious problem and should not be pushed aside. Underage drinking should not be labeled as a phase every teenager goes through either. In order to help our peers the community needs to take action and do something about it. Teenagers in our communities are voluntarily working to help the problem of underage drinking and to help let teenagers know what they are getting themselves into when they drink. We are also helping the teenagers who have already given into the overwhelming pressure to drink and to fit in realize that drinking doesn't make you a better friend and does not make friends. Communities need to also do a better job of not targeting youth when advertising alcohol. In many stores around the town we live in are small and packed with products. There should be separate parts of the stores containing adult products and youth products. The government has passed many laws trying to cut down on underage drinking but it will always be a problem unless teenagers know how much danger and trouble drinking can bring to them. Communities should also offer safe and fun places for teens to go without feeling the need to drink to be pressured to drink. As a person in your community you should be involved in programs in your town and help keep teens safe from underage drinking. If everyone in the community were involved in the same issue of underage drinking many teen lives would be saved.
