In-House and In-School Programming

The Choices and Consequences In-House and the Choices and Consequences In-School Program are sister programs designed to meet the needs of youth at various locations. Both the In-House and In-School Program will provide youth with information in the following core topics:
  • Legal Consequences of Use
  • Alcohol and Drug Information
  • Use-Abuse-and Addiction
  • Decision Making Skills
  • Values
  • Assertiveness

Choices and Consequences is offered in various schools throughout Madison County. The In-House Program is offered at the Canastota office location. Students who cannot miss classes but who attend serviced schools may be able to be serviced In-House.

Youth who take the program must meet some of the following criteria:

  • Be at risk for using alcohol or other drugs
  • Be using alcohol or other drugs
  • Have been referred by the court system to complete an awareness course
  • Face consequences as a result of being caught with alcohol or other drugs

Some basics about C&C:

  • The program is designed to work with young people on an individual basis. This allows the youth and the Prevention Specialist to interact without distraction. Also, this allows for the molding of the program to fit based on a needs assessment. Young people are more apt to ask questions and take an active role in a one-on-one setting.
  • The length of the session varies due to where the youth is being serviced. If service occurs In-House, the program runs in two, two-hour sessions. If the youth is being serviced in school the program often runs up to 4 periods. (This however varies from school to school based on period lengths.)
  • Clients who schedule In-House appointments and miss two appointments without calling to reschedule prior to the missed appointments, will not be serviced. On the same note, clients more than 20 minutes late for an appointment will be rescheduled.
  • Youth are asked to complete a homework assignment which asks them to take a close look into their use. This assignment is to be completed or a rescheduling of the session will occur. After all, Choices and Consequences is a program about being held accountable for one’s actions!

New teens are accepted on an ongoing basis through self-referral or by referral through schools, parents, and other organizations. For more information, or to make a referral to Choices and Consequences call the BRiDGES office at (315) 697-3947. There is a $50.00 fee for the program. Scholarships are available upon request.
