Players for Prevention

Players for Prevention is a youth theater program operated by BRiDGES that works to raise awareness of issues young people face and that promotes messages about respect for the self and for others, positive decision making, and healthy lifestyles. The program involves teens from high schools throughout Madison County who are selected because of their experience in theater arts and/or leadership programs.

During a weekend retreat the students write scripts and develop a dramatic performance piece composed of a series of scenes. Throughout the school year members of the troupe continue to research the issues addressed in the scenes, rehearse, and present interactive performances at schools, coffee houses, churches and other venues

Issues typically addressed by Players for Prevention:

  • Alcohol and other drug use
  • Friendship and cliques
  • Sex and dating
  • Suicide
  • Hate crimes and violence
  • Smoking and addiction
